ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly and Senate are scheduled for critical sessions today, during which key legislation _ an increase in judges and approval of the anti-terrorism bill _ is expected. After the bill’s approval, the number of SC judges will be increased to 25 from 17.
The National Assembly, led by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, is holding its session at 4 PM with a seven-point agenda. Key items include the anticipated passage of the Anti-Terrorism Amendment Bill and a bill to increase the number of judges.
According to the agenda, the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Amendment Ordinance will also be presented, proposing amendments to Section 2 of Act 17. This amendment would require that all cases be assigned to designated benches under the Chief Justice’s oversight.
Additionally, the Assembly will review Pakistan’s placement at 129 on the Rule of Law Index, along with a motion of thanks in response to the President’s recent joint session address. Aliya Kamran has also filed a notice addressing the grounding of PIA aircraft. The agenda further includes a question-and-answer session and points of order.
Meanwhile, the Senate session has a 39-point agenda, which includes the introduction of three new bills as well as the review and approval of 11 bills recommended by standing committees.
The government has instructed all members of parliament to ensure their attendance at these sessions.
