Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has reportedly instructed party leader Junaid Akbar to resign from his post as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), sources familiar with the matter revealed.
The message was said to have been conveyed to party leadership through Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan. According to insiders, the directive is part of an internal restructuring effort, with the former prime minister wanting Akbar to focus more on key party responsibilities amid shifting political dynamics.
There is speculation within the party that senior leader Omar Ayub, who currently serves as PTI’s nominee for the prime minister’s post, could be considered to replace Akbar as PAC chairman. However, no official announcement has been made regarding this potential change.
Junaid Akbar, while speaking to the media, stated that he had not received any formal communication through the same channel that had initially appointed him to the chairmanship. “I’ve not been officially told to step down,” he clarified.
Meanwhile, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja declined to offer any comments, stating that the party would issue an official statement if needed.
The PAC is a crucial parliamentary body responsible for scrutinizing public expenditures and ensuring transparency and accountability in government finances.
