Both nations emphasized the importance of enhancing defence cooperation, including military engagements, training programs, and joint security initiatives aimed at regional stability and mutual benefit.
The reaffirmation of these ties came during the visit of Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Chief of Defence Staff of the Maldives, who is currently on an official trip to Pakistan.
During his visit, he met with General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi. Their discussions focused on enhancing military-to-military cooperation, intelligence-sharing, counterterrorism efforts, and the exchange of strategic expertise.
During the meeting, Major General Hilmy acknowledged the professionalism and dedication of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He commended their achievements in combating terrorism and maintaining regional peace, highlighting the sacrifices made by Pakistani security personnel in their fight against extremist threats.
He further expressed admiration for Pakistan’s role in promoting regional security and its continued support in strengthening military relations with friendly nations.
Upon his arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters, Major General Hilmy was given a warm welcome by a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent, which presented him with a Guard of Honour. The official reception underscored the significance Pakistan places on its defence partnership with the Maldives.
Pakistan and the Maldives have historically enjoyed strong diplomatic and defence relations, cooperating on various security and strategic fronts.
This visit is expected to further enhance defence cooperation between the two countries, ensuring continued collaboration in areas such as counterterrorism, maritime security, and defence training programs.
As both nations work towards deepening their military ties, the discussions held during this visit will likely pave the way for further agreements and initiatives aimed at bolstering regional security and strengthening the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and the Maldives.
