DOHA/ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Qatar convened the second round of political consultations in Doha, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties across multiple sectors.
The meeting was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, Amina Baloch, and Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al Marakhi.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, discussions encompassed a broad spectrum of topics, including political, economic, consular, and people-to-people relations. Both sides also exchanged views on key regional and international developments.
Acknowledging the positive momentum in their bilateral relations, Pakistan and Qatar underscored the significance of high-level visits and exchanges in deepening cooperation. The delegations reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration in all areas of mutual interest and agreed to continue consultations on shared concerns.
The next round of political consultations is set to take place in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, on February 5, the annual bilateral consultations between Pakistan and Qatar were postponed, according to official sources.
The Foreign Office had announced the high-level talks a week earlier, with Pakistan’s delegation expected to be led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Dar had already chaired two preparatory meetings to finalize the agenda for discussions with Qatari officials.
However, the talks were postponed due to Ishaq Dar’s sudden departure to China for an official visit. Both nations remain in contact to finalize new dates for the rescheduled consultations.
According to state media, Ishaq Dar had convened an interministerial conference to prepare for the Pakistan-Qatar Bilateral Political Consultations. The discussions in Qatar were expected to cover key areas such as trade, investment, defense cooperation, and shared diplomatic objectives.
