NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, on Tuesday briefed the ambassadors and permanent representatives of the Arab Group on the escalating regional situation in South Asia, particularly in light of India’s recent aggressive actions.
During the meeting held at Pakistan’s Mission to the UN, Ambassador Ahmad described India’s behavior as provocative and unlawful, highlighting New Delhi’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and its inflammatory rhetoric as serious violations of international law and the UN Charter.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s response to the Indian aggression was “measured, proportionate, and firmly in line with the right to self-defense under the UN Charter.”
The ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining the ceasefire and taking responsible steps toward de-escalation and peace in the region. However, he warned that lasting peace in South Asia remains impossible without a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Ambassador Ahmad also urged the international community, including the Arab world, to remain engaged and play a constructive role in preserving regional peace and stability.
Pakistan, China United for Peace and Stability
Separately, in an interview with China Media Group, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry emphasized the close strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.
He said both countries are committed to regional peace and share a unified stance against terrorism. “Pakistan and China are responsible international actors with a shared commitment to the welfare of their people,” he stated, adding that “true prosperity is rooted in peace and stability.”
The statements come amid heightened tensions in South Asia and growing international concern over India’s recent moves, which Pakistan views as dangerous escalations in an already volatile region.
