Pakistan and Indonesia have reaffirmed their resolve to boost defence ties and broaden cooperation in strategic, economic, and security sectors.
In meetings held on Tuesday, Indonesia’s Defence Minister Lieutenant General (Retd) Syafrie Samsudin led a delegation of senior officials and met Pakistan’s civil and military leadership to explore deeper bilateral defence collaboration.
During talks with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, both sides discussed expanding military cooperation and reviewed regional security dynamics. Field Marshal Munir stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships to uphold regional peace and stability.
The Indonesian Defence Minister praised the Pakistan Army’s significant achievements in counter-terrorism operations and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing defence relations with Pakistan.
Earlier in Islamabad, Lieutenant General Syafrie Samsudin also called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s determination to increase cooperation with Indonesia, especially in joint ventures and investment opportunities in the defence production sector.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also recalled his recent discussion with Indonesian President Prabowo Subiantuo during the G-8 Summit in Cairo, conveying warm wishes from Pakistan to Indonesia.
Both sides reviewed progress made under the Pakistan-Indonesia Defence Cooperation Agreement, agreeing to accelerate the implementation of projects of shared interest.
Lieutenant General Syafrie Samsudin also conveyed greetings from President Prabowo Subiantuo to Pakistan’s leadership and expressed Indonesia’s desire to strengthen cooperation across multiple fields beyond defence, including trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.
This renewed commitment reflects a shared vision to contribute to peace and stability in the broader region while developing stronger strategic and economic partnerships between Pakistan and Indonesia.
