The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has launched a reward scheme to encourage public participation in identifying cartels and illegal business collusion.
As part of this initiative, individuals who provide credible information about price-fixing and supply manipulation can receive rewards between Rs200,000 and Rs2 million. The identities of informants will be kept strictly confidential to ensure their protection.
Crackdown on Unfair Market Practices
Consumers in Pakistan often experience artificial price hikes, shortages, and substandard goods due to cartelization—an illegal practice where businesses conspire to fix prices, limit supply, or manipulate market conditions for illicit profit.
The CCP stresses that a competitive market ensures better prices and improved quality for consumers, while collusion undermines economic stability. It is essential that businesses compete fairly rather than forming secret agreements to control prices and supply.
Under the Competition Act, 2010, any agreement—whether secret or public—that seeks to fix prices, restrict supply, or manipulate product quality is a serious violation. The CCP has urged citizens and industry stakeholders to report such activities and contribute to dismantling these unlawful networks.
How to Report and Claim Rewards
Individuals with evidence of anti-competitive practices can report them through the CCP’s phone line, email, or official website. If the provided information leads to action against a cartel, the informant will receive financial compensation and be recognized for their role in protecting consumer rights.
This initiative aims to foster public involvement in eliminating fraudulent market players and promoting a fair, transparent business environment. By ensuring competitive practices, the scheme is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s economy and safeguard consumer interests.
