More than 50 people sustained injuries when a petrol-laden truck exploded near a truck terminal in Balochistan’s Nushki district on Monday.
Initial reports suggest that the fire broke out while the truck was parked at the terminal. Firefighting teams were actively battling the blaze as a large crowd gathered nearby. During the operation, the truck suddenly exploded, engulfing nearby fire engines and multiple motorcycles in the blast.
Rescue officials confirmed that over 50 individuals suffered burn injuries. The injured were rushed to local hospitals, where emergency protocols were immediately activated to manage the situation.
Authorities noted that several victims are in critical condition, and efforts are underway to transfer the most severely burned patients to specialised burn units in Quetta for advanced treatment.
An investigation has been initiated to identify the cause of the original fire. Officials have urged the public to maintain a safe distance from vehicles carrying flammable materials during emergencies to avoid further casualties.
Nushki, located near Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, serves as an important transit point, regularly handling a high volume of commercial and fuel transport. Despite repeated warnings about the dangers associated with transporting hazardous materials, enforcement of safety regulations in remote regions remains inadequate.
