Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Dushanbe on Thursday for a two-day official visit aimed at boosting bilateral ties and addressing climate change challenges in the region.
Upon his arrival at Dushanbe International Airport, he was welcomed by Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda and Deputy Foreign Minister Sharifzada Farrukh Hamdin. The Pakistani delegation includes Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
During the visit, Prime Minister Sharif is set to hold talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. The discussions will focus on expanding cooperation in trade, energy, regional connectivity, and security. The prime minister is also expected to express appreciation for Tajikistan’s support during past tensions between Pakistan and India.
Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif will take part in an international conference on glacier preservation in Dushanbe. He will highlight Pakistan’s concerns regarding the effects of climate change, especially in the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges, and urge greater international collaboration to safeguard these critical glacial systems.
Before arriving in Tajikistan, the prime minister spoke to media at Lachin Airport during his departure from Azerbaijan. He referred to May 28 as a “historic day” for both Pakistan and Azerbaijan—commemorating Pakistan’s 1998 nuclear tests and Azerbaijan’s independence anniversary.
He praised Azerbaijan’s progress under President Ilham Aliyev and reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to deepen collaboration with Azerbaijan, particularly in trade, investment, and other strategic areas.
