Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday plans to expand the use of digital wallets across Pakistan, emphasizing that all provinces would soon be integrated into a unified digital payment system under a coordinated framework.
Speaking at a ceremony honoring individuals for their outstanding performance in implementing the Prime Minister’s Ramazan Relief Package, PM Shehbaz highlighted that modern payment solutions ensured the efficient and dignified transfer of financial aid to deserving citizens. He noted that 79 percent of the funds under the relief package were distributed digitally, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the premier underscored that the introduction of digital wallets had resolved many of the challenges faced under previous systems. He expressed confidence that by next year, 100 percent of government disbursements would be conducted digitally.
The Prime Minister credited the modernization efforts with achieving significant improvements and stressed that all provinces would soon be linked to the digital payments infrastructure through an integrated national framework.
During the event, Secretary of the Benazir Income Support Programme, Amir Ahmed Ali, provided a comprehensive briefing on the success of the Ramazan Relief Package and the role of digital wallets in its execution.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also awarded honorary shields to officials from both public and private sectors who contributed significantly to the successful implementation of the relief initiative.
