ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political committee has strongly condemned Fawad Chaudhry for his physical altercation with party leader Shoaib Shaheen, labeling it a “criminal act”.
In an official statement issued following an emergency meeting, the PTI political committee criticized Fawad Chaudhry’s behavior and expressed solidarity with Shoaib Shaheen, assuring him of the party’s full support.
The statement described Fawad’s actions as reflective of his “cowardly and treacherous nature” and clarified that he no longer holds the authority to represent PTI on any platform.
Responding to the condemnation, Fawad Chaudhry dismissed the committee’s remarks as “irrelevant.” In a tweet, he questioned the legitimacy of the committee, alleging that its members had “never spent a day in jail” and had misappropriated party funds worth millions.
The Altercation
Reports earlier revealed that a scuffle broke out between Fawad Chaudhry, a former federal minister, and PTI leader Shoaib Shaheen outside Adiala Jail. Sources stated that the confrontation escalated, with Fawad allegedly slapping Shoaib Shaheen during the altercation.
Shaheen subsequently filed a complaint with PTI founder Imran Khan, alleging that he was assaulted by Fawad near Gate No. 5 of the jail. He also claimed to have sustained injuries to his hand during the incident.
Fawad Chaudhry’s Explanation
Addressing the incident, Fawad Chaudhry explained that the altercation stemmed from remarks made by Shoaib Shaheen during a TV program. According to Fawad, Shaheen had claimed that Imran Khan referred to him as a “deserter.”
“I knew this wasn’t true. I personally asked Imran Khan if he called me a deserter, and Khan denied making such remarks,” Fawad said. He added that he had asked Shaheen to refrain from making such statements, but the exchange escalated into a physical confrontation.
Later, Fawad Chaudhry revealed that the issue had been resolved through mediation by PTI founder Imran Khan, who facilitated a reconciliation between the two leaders.
