The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it is postponing its planned protest in Islamabad, which was originally set for today.
PTI regional president Aamir Mughal provided an update on the change in plans. The protest had been scheduled for 3 p.m. today but will now be held on Monday. Mughal explained that the party had sought permission from the deputy commissioner (DC) on July 23, but since approval was not granted, the issue was brought before the Islamabad High Court.
Mughal stated that the court has indicated it may permit the protest on Monday and has reserved its decision. He emphasized the party’s respect for the legal process and the court’s authority.
Following consultations with the party’s central leadership, it was decided to postpone the protest to Monday in deference to the court’s pending ruling. Mughal highlighted that the protest planned for Monday will last for eighty days, reflecting the party’s commitment to peaceful and lawful demonstrations.
In the meantime, police have conducted extensive raids targeting PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) members across various cities since late Wednesday night. These operations were in response to the announcement of a protest sit-in at Islamabad’s D-Chowk after Friday prayers.
PTI has been holding smaller demonstrations in cities including Lahore, Karachi (in Clifton and Haideri), and Quetta. On Friday, 13 JI activists were arrested at D-Chowk in Islamabad as other party members rallied at Express Chowk, voicing their opposition to the government. The arrested individuals were taken to Kohsar police station.
