ISLAMABAD: Ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest on November 24, law enforcement agencies have announced a “virtual siege” of Rawalpindi. The city will be sealed at 50 key locations to block PTI supporters from accessing the federal capital.
Authorities have launched a crackdown on PTI leaders and activists, detaining over 30 individuals so far. Security measures include deploying shipping containers, razor wire, and barbed wire at strategic points, with additional personnel, including Elite Force commandos, on standby to maintain order.
While police prefer to avoid using water cannons and rubber bullets, they are prepared for potential clashes, particularly in the Attock district, where tensions are expected to escalate.
Officials have emphasized that their primary objective is to preserve peace and safeguard citizens’ lives and property.
Despite these preparations, PTI remains determined to hold the protest, focusing on demanding fresh elections and advocating for the release of its imprisoned founder. Police conducted inspections of sealing points on Wednesday, reinforcing the importance of preventing unrest and ensuring public safety.
