The Rawalpindi Traffic Police have announced a comprehensive traffic plan for the 9th and 10th of Muharram (July 5 and 6, 2025) to manage movement during processions. A total of 930 officers and personnel have been deployed across the city to ensure smooth traffic flow and security.
On Ashura day, traffic will be completely blocked on the stretch from Committee Chowk to Iqbal Road. Additionally, a full diversion will be set up at DAV College Chowk, cutting access to College Road. Once the procession reaches Naya Mohalla, the route from DAV College Chowk to Fawara Chowk will also be closed to vehicles.
Chief Traffic Officer Beenish Fatima confirmed that strict security measures and traffic arrangements are in place.
Public transport will be diverted from DAV College Chowk, while private vehicles will reroute from Gawalmandi via Dhok Kumhar to Bhusa Godam. Other planned diversions include guiding vehicles at Mashriq Hotel on City Saddar Road back towards Saddar and Mohanpura through Cinema Chowk and Ganjmandi Road to Pirwadhai.
The road from Cinema Chowk to Kashmiri Bazaar will also be closed, with traffic redirected through Transit Camp to Saddar. Near City Police Station, vehicles will move via Ganjmandi Road, Dhok Hassu, and Pirwadhai.
Traffic on Shah Allah Ditta Road will follow alternative routes through Dhok Dalal, TB Hospital, Pirwadhai, and Asghar Mall. At Bakery Chowk, vehicles will be rerouted towards Banni Chowk, Link Road, and then along Saidpur Road and Circular Road, reaching Liaquat Bagh via Murree Road.
Further restrictions will apply at Hamilton Chowk and Bansowala Chowk, along with road closures near Dingi Khoi and the Grand Mosque. Access to Imambargah Baltistania from Pir Choha Chowk will also be sealed.
For processions starting in Satellite Town, diversions will be enforced around New Town Police Station, Punjab College of Commerce, Hayat Wali Hospital, Aziz Nursing Home, Banni Chowk, and Kohati Bazar.
