As the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit nears, scheduled for October 15 and 16, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has expedited a project focused on upgrading VIP routes in the city. The project’s budget has surged to Rs31.3 million, a significant jump from the initial allocation of Rs3.7 million.
In an unusual move, the RDA plans to award the contract through a single tender rather than the standard open e-tendering process. Tech Construction, the sole company selected, will submit its bid, with the tender opening slated for September 29.
RDA officials explained that the urgency surrounding the conference, coupled with tight timelines, necessitated both the budget increase and the single-tender approach. They highlighted the importance of expanding the project to ensure the timely completion of road carpeting and beautification efforts, particularly within the vicinity of the old airport, to facilitate smooth movement for foreign dignitaries.
The decision has been authorized by the competent authority, underscoring the need to prepare VIP routes in advance of this significant international event. Officials noted that swift execution of the upgrades is essential to accommodate the high-level delegations attending the conference, which will be pivotal for Pakistan on the global stage.
