Qari Rizwanullah
Kurram, Pakistan: Renowned religious leader Qari Rizwanullah was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the Sadda Pir Qoum area of Lower Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Saturday.
The attack, which resulted in a fatal head injury, has raised concerns over escalating violence in the region.
Following the incident, police launched an immediate search operation to track down the assailants.
Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any relevant information that could assist in identifying those responsible for the killing.
The deceased’s body was transported to Sadda Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
This assassination follows a series of violent incidents in Kurram district. Just days earlier, on January 31, Upper Kurram Assistant Commissioner Saeed Manan Khan and three policemen sustained injuries in a separate shooting incident in the upper district’s tehsil of KP.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has condemned the growing unrest, vowing to take strict action against those involved in such attacks.
Officials have reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace in Kurram, especially as security forces continue their demolition of illegal bunkers, which began on January 19.
The situation in Kurram remains tense following an attack on relief convoys heading towards Parachinar on January 16, where unidentified gunmen opened fire on vehicles carrying essential aid.
As security operations intensify, authorities remain focused on apprehending perpetrators and ensuring the safety of local residents.
