The Ministry of Hajj has issued important guidelines for pilgrims to ensure their safety and well-being as the Umrah season continues in Saudi Arabia.
The ministry emphasized the importance of physical preparation, particularly foot care, to help pilgrims perform Umrah rituals comfortably at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. Authorities urged pilgrims to avoid walking long distances barefoot, recommending comfortable footwear in non-prayer areas. They also advised taking breaks when feeling fatigued, noting that proper rest and physical readiness can reduce the risk of exhaustion during the pilgrimage.
The ministry also stressed the need to avoid heavy meals and stay hydrated throughout the journey. Adequate rest and sufficient fluid intake are essential to keep the body energized for the Umrah rites.
The current Umrah season, which began in late June after the annual Hajj pilgrimage, follows the participation of around 1.8 million Muslims in Hajj. Last year, around 13.5 million Muslims performed Umrah, and Saudi Arabia aims to welcome 15 million pilgrims next year.
To accommodate more pilgrims, Saudi authorities have introduced new measures, including extending the Umrah visa duration from 30 to 90 days. Visa holders can now enter the kingdom via all land, air, and seaports and exit from any airport. Additionally, female pilgrims are no longer required to have a male guardian accompany them, simplifying the process.
Muslims with different types of visas, such as personal, visit, or tourism visas, are also eligible to perform Umrah and visit Al Rawda Al Sharifa, the sacred chamber containing the tomb of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. E-appointments are required for these visits. Saudi citizens can now invite friends from abroad to undertake the pilgrimage.
These changes reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to improving the pilgrimage experience for Muslims worldwide, making Umrah more accessible and comfortable for all.
