ISLAMABAD: Shortly before the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) convened to address misconduct allegations against him, Justice Mazahar Naqvi made a move to the Supreme Court seeking to halt the ongoing proceedings.
On Monday, Justice Naqvi petitioned the SC to terminate the SJC’s actions against him, citing that the Council had issued notices without considering his objections. He urged the SC to declare any future notices regarding hearings as illegitimate.
In his plea, Justice Naqvi asserted that the proceedings aimed at him were an assault on the judiciary itself.
Chaired by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the upcoming SJC meeting was set to examine accusations against both Justice Mazahar Naqvi and Justice Tariq Masood.
Reports indicated that the objections raised by Justice Naqvi against SJC members would also undergo scrutiny during Monday’s review.
Earlier, the SJC had issued a show-cause notice to Justice Naqvi following allegations of misconduct and corruption filed on October 27.
However, the judge contested the involvement of the Chief Justice and two other judges in the proceedings, labeling the actions as politically driven rather than lawful.
Justice Naqvi had expressed, “For the sake of propriety, justice, and equity, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan should abstain from adjudicating the complaints against me.
Their participation, resulting in a Show Cause Notice against me, stains these proceedings with bias, rendering all consequent orders void of lawful authority and legal effect.”
