Kalat
In a brazen act of terrorism, armed assailants launched a late-night attack near Kalat during the early hours between Friday and Saturday, freeing 10 prisoners and kidnapping five police personnel, according to credible police sources.
The incident occurred on the national highway near Mangocher, where a convoy was transporting inmates from Gadani Jail to Quetta.
The prisoners were being moved in a private van under the supervision of law enforcement officers when the convoy was suddenly intercepted by heavily armed militants who had set up a blockade on the route.
According to police reports, the attackers swiftly overpowered the convoy, freeing all 10 inmates in custody. During the assault, the terrorists also abducted five police personnel and seized their service weapons.
The police officials were reportedly caught off-guard due to the sudden nature of the ambush and the strategic positioning of the attackers. Fortunately, two officers who were dressed in civilian clothing managed to escape from the scene and later reported the incident to senior officials.
Police sources revealed that among the freed prisoners, at least one was a convict facing the death penalty, while another was serving a life sentence for serious criminal offenses. The identities of the remaining inmates have not been officially disclosed as investigations are ongoing.
In response to the attack, security forces have launched a large-scale search operation in the surrounding areas to recapture the escaped prisoners and locate the abducted police personnel.
Additional checkpoints have been established across Balochistan, and intelligence units have been activated to trace the movements of the assailants.
The daring escape and abduction have raised serious concerns over security protocols during prisoner transfers, particularly in volatile regions such as Balochistan. Authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and have assured that every effort is being made to ensure the safe recovery of the kidnapped officers.
