The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, received Pakistan’s Senate chairperson, Yusuf Raza Gilani, at the presidential headquarters in Riyadh on Wednesday. Gilani was accompanied by a delegation of members from Pakistan’s upper house of parliament.
During the meeting, Sheikh Al-Sheikh, who also serves as the chairperson of the Council of Senior Scholars and president general of scientific research and ifta, emphasized the strong and enduring Islamic ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
He highlighted the pivotal role of the Council of Senior Scholars in providing Shariah-based guidance on matters of concern to Muslims. The council has issued over 30,000 fatwas and 200 rulings, demonstrating its dedication to addressing key issues. Sheikh Al-Sheikh also stressed the council’s commitment to promoting moderation and combating extremism across the region.
Additionally, he commended the ongoing efforts of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in serving the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah, ensuring that pilgrims and visitors receive comprehensive and high-quality services.
Gilani expressed his gratitude and joy for visiting Saudi Arabia, acknowledging the Kingdom’s significant role in the Islamic world and its strong bilateral relations with Pakistan. He also praised Saudi Arabia’s leadership in addressing shared issues and challenges.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Fahd Al-Majed, secretary-general of the Council of Senior Scholars, and Abdulrahman Al-Harbi, a member of Saudi Arabia’s Shoura Council.
