At least three people lost their lives, 14 remain missing, and 60 others were hospitalized after two tourist boats capsized on Sunday in the city of Qianxi, located in China’s southwestern Guizhou province.
According to Chinese media reports, the boats overturned on a river situated within a tourist attraction in the area. However, specific details regarding the site or the circumstances of the incident were not immediately disclosed.
Rescue teams are actively searching for the 14 missing individuals, while authorities continue efforts to assist the injured.
President Xi Jinping called for “all-out efforts” to ensure the rescue and treatment of victims, emphasizing the need to enhance safety protocols in tourist destinations and other high-traffic public areas. Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing has been sent to the site to supervise the emergency response.
This tragedy comes just over two months after a fatal boating incident in Hunan province, where 11 people died when a passenger boat collided with an industrial vessel, resulting in 19 passengers being thrown into the water.
