ISLAMABAD: The Toshakhana 2 case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, has been adjourned until February 17 following a jail trial at Adiala Jail.
During the hearing, statements from eight witnesses were recorded, with seven of them cross-examined. The cross-examination of the eighth witness remains incomplete and will resume at the next hearing.
Imran Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, filed a request for an open trial, arguing that the current proceedings inside the prison lack transparency. He claimed that lawyers were selectively granted access, while the general public was barred from witnessing the trial.
“This trial is being conducted in a controlled environment by the jail authorities. Lawyers are allowed entry at will, while ordinary citizens are denied access,” Chaudhry asserted.
He urged the court to halt proceedings until a decision on the open trial request is made. In response, the court issued notices to the relevant parties.
Meanwhile, the Adiala Jail superintendent submitted a response to a petition filed by lawyer Mashal Yousafzai. The jail administration stated that Yousafzai’s legal license had been suspended by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council and that an inquiry was underway into how a power of attorney was issued in her name despite the suspension.
The next hearing is scheduled for February 17, when the court is expected to continue the trial and deliberate on the open trial request.
