Phone Conversation
United States President Donald Trump has described his recent phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “very good,” following an in-depth discussion that lasted approximately one hour.
The call, according to foreign media reports, was a crucial step in ongoing diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, particularly in the context of a potential cease-fire.
The discussion took place just a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin had reportedly agreed to temporarily halt strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, under the condition that Kyiv would reciprocate.
Given the high stakes, Trump’s conversation with Zelensky aimed to align the “requests and needs” of both Russia and Ukraine, as part of broader negotiations to de-escalate tensions in the war-torn region.
In a statement shared on his Truth Social account, Trump provided details about the call, emphasizing its constructive nature. He noted that much of the conversation was centered around aligning both parties’ expectations, particularly following his recent dialogue with Russian President Putin.
“Much of the discussion was based on the call made yesterday with President Putin in order to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs,” Trump stated, suggesting that efforts to mediate between the two sides were progressing.
Furthermore, Trump expressed optimism regarding the ongoing diplomatic efforts, stating, “We are very much on track,” reinforcing the notion that progress was being made in shaping the terms of a possible peace agreement.
To ensure transparency and accuracy in conveying the contents of the call, Trump revealed that he had instructed Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz to provide an official statement summarizing the key points discussed.
He also hinted that a further detailed statement would be issued “shortly,” keeping the international community informed of the latest developments.
As the Russia-Ukraine war continues to unfold, the involvement of world leaders in negotiating peace remains a critical factor in determining the trajectory of the conflict.
Trump’s engagement in discussions with both Putin and Zelensky suggests a renewed effort to mediate and explore potential solutions aimed at reducing hostilities and addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region.
