During a rally at Macomb Community College north of Detroit, President Donald Trump marked the initial 100 days of his second term by promising a resurgence of American industry. “Watch what’s happening — companies are coming back by the tens,” he told supporters, predicting a wave of carmakers returning to Michigan.
Trump proclaimed this stretch “the most successful first 100 days of any administration in history,” a claim he attributed to widespread praise. Earlier in the day, at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, he highlighted a planned $1 trillion investment in national defense and commended his administration’s foreign policy achievements from 2017 to 2021.
In a notable show of bipartisanship, Trump praised Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, crediting her with helping to secure the future of Selfridge. He announced that the base would receive 21 new Boeing F-15X fighter jets, a move Whitmer called “a huge, bipartisan win for Michigan” that will safeguard local jobs.
That evening, Trump held his largest rally since taking office on January 20 in Warren, near Detroit, using the platform to underscore his administration’s early accomplishments. However, a recent three-day Reuters/Ipsos poll found that just 42% of Americans approve of his performance so far—down from 47% in January—while only 36% endorse his handling of the economy, the lowest rating of his political career.
