On Saturday, a blast near a police mobile van in Kuchlak town, close to Quetta, claimed the lives of at least two police officers. Rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene to provide assistance.
The explosion injured two officers, who were quickly transported to a hospital. Despite medical efforts, one officer was pronounced dead upon arrival, and the second officer also succumbed to his injuries shortly after. The Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) had previously reported that the surviving officer was in critical condition.
The exact nature of the blast remains undetermined, but preliminary reports suggest that a bomb may have been planted along the road where the explosion occurred.
Earlier in the week, another attack targeted police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s South Waziristan. A remote-controlled bomb detonated on a police van on Kir Kot Road in Wana Rustam Bazar, injuring 13 people, including six police officers and seven civilians. The wounded were transported to the District Headquarters Hospital, with one critically injured victim transferred to Dera Ismail Khan.
Pakistan continues to grapple with economic instability and political unrest, compounded by a rise in terrorism. August saw a surge in violent incidents, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. According to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), attacks jumped from 38 in July to 59 in August. The data highlighted a sharp increase in violence, with 29 incidents reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 28 in Balochistan, and two in Punjab.
