Two police officers who were taken hostage by drug traffickers in Uthaal village, located in Islamabad’s Phulgran area, were successfully rescued by federal law enforcement on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, both officers sustained injuries due to torture by the captors and were immediately transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, a search operation is ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
Earlier, police sources reported that officers had entered the area to take action against drug dealers when they came under gunfire. During the confrontation, two officials were taken captive. A civilian was also injured during the incident.
Following the attack, a significant police force was deployed to the village to conduct a rescue operation. However, local residents resisted the police advance by pelting stones and reportedly opening fire, making it challenging for law enforcement to move forward. In response, reinforcements from various stations across Islamabad were called in to support the operation.
Earlier in the day, Islamabad Capital Police intensified their crackdown on illegal weapons and narcotics, leading to the arrest of 17 suspects in the past 24 hours. Authorities also registered cases against them.
A police spokesperson stated that officers recovered 11 pistols of various calibers along with ammunition. Additionally, law enforcement seized 7,230 grams of hashish and 2,275 grams of heroin from drug peddlers.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the detained individuals, and further investigations are underway.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Muhammad Jawad Tariq reiterated the department’s commitment to eradicating crime and ensuring public safety in the federal capital.
