Unidentified assailants attacked and looted a convoy of basic commodities in Lower Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday.
The convoy, comprising around 40 vehicles traveling from Thal to Parachinar, was ambushed from “seven different locations,” according to eyewitnesses. In response, paramilitary forces launched counter-fire from a helicopter to target the attackers.
Assistant Commissioner Syed Ihsan Ali Shah stated that none of the 113 vehicles that initially departed from Thal have returned so far. “Currently, 17 to 18 vehicles are halted in Thal,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner Gohar Zaman Wazir clarified that the convoy included more than 129 freight vehicles carrying essential food supplies. The first group of 40 vehicles was dispatched toward Kurram, with district authorities claiming to have implemented “stringent security measures” to safeguard the route.
