ISLAMABAD: A court on Wednesday issued arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Zartaj Gul in connection with the Azadi March case and a Section 144 violation.
According to details, the warrants were issued by Civil Judge Mubashir Hassan Chishti after Zartaj Gul failed to appear before the court despite being summoned in both cases. The court noted her non-compliance as the reason for issuing the arrest warrants.
In October last year, Imran Khan and several other PTI leaders, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, were acquitted in the Azadi March case. Civil Judge Shehzad Khan delivered the verdict, acquitting Raja Khurram Shehzad, Imran Ismail, and Ali Nawaz Awan as well.
Earlier, former PTI leaders Ali Nawaz Awan and Raja Khurram Shehzad Nawaz were also cleared of charges related to the Azadi March cases by the courts.
Additionally, PTI’s Mehar Bano Qureshi was arrested in a case related to Section 144 violation. A sessions court in Islamabad had previously heard similar cases tied to the Azadi March and acquitted both former PTI leaders involved.
It is worth noting that several PTI leaders, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, were implicated in numerous FIRs linked to the Azadi March. The police had registered 42 cases against senior PTI leaders and workers following clashes between PTI members and law enforcement in the provincial capital.
